Computer Science Education Week & Hour of Code
Computer Science Education Week is celebrated annually in early December to commemorate the birthday of Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, a pioneer in computing. It is "dedicated to inspiring K-12 students to take an interest in computer science."
Computer Science Education Week 2016 will be celebrated December 5-11, 2016. |
For Computer Science Education Week 2013, Code.org made Hour of Code activities available to encourage every student to have the opportunity to learn computer science.
Hour of Code activities are one-hour tutorials and hands-on activities that introduce students to a visual programming environment, programming language, or app programming. They are a great way to introduce your to your Computer Science students to new programming languages and app development. It is also a great way to recruit future Computer Science students. Hour of Code requires very little teacher preparation! The Hour of Code activities are online for use at any time. The http://csedweek.org/ and http://code.org/ websites both link to Hour of Code activities. |
For ideas on using Hour of Code activities in your Computer Science classes and to spread the word about coding and recruit future Computer Science students, please view the rest of the pages under this section.
